it occurred to me this afternoon while reading the most recent
"creative loafing" during brunch at the local diner, that i have strayed a bit from my musicgeek roots. true, i still love music, listen to it daily, and collect more vinyl and cds than i really have room for, but i find that i barely go out a see music shows any more. in fact, i just found out that both the fall and hot hot heat played this weekend and i have become so
out of "the know" that i was completely oblivious and missed them.
i have decided that i need to change that. i need to stop getting caught up in not finding anyone to go with so just staying in, but instead just making the trek out on my own. there are some great shows coming up and i refuse to miss them. i think i am going to even try and catch at least one show a week from now on.
here's some great upcoming contenders:
the woggles/the subsonics/the 45s - the earl - 07.18mmm, yes, two of my favorite bands playing on the same bill. i always have a weakness for when they play together, as it brings me back to when i first saw them play back in 1994 and they supremely rocked my world. i am
so there...
the buzzcocks - the cotton club - 07.16this one i am a bit "iffy" about. the buzzcocks are one of my all-time favorite bands, but i have no idea how they will sound now. that and it is on a week-night and with having to rise early for my daily corporate hell, this one might be hard to swing. we'll see.
the kills/the whirlwind heat - the echo lounge - 09.07okay, this one may be a bit far off, but come on, the kills and the whirlwind heat?
i can't wait!mudcat - northside tavern - 07.25 and 07.26i've never heard this local bluesman, but he had a good writeup in the paper and, hell, northside tavern is around the corner from my house, so how can i resist? he is also playing free in decatur on sunday's at a place called adam's garden of eatin'. i'll have to check him out.
anyone wanna check out some shows with me?
