I'll Sink Manhattan

Well, I am doing some long overdue Spring cleaning and listed some more books and such on Half.com (go here if interested). They are completely being enmeshed in with Ebay and will no longer exist by mid-October, but I still want to sell my stuff through them as long as I can (I will greatly mourn them going away. Poop.). Anyway, I lowered the prices on everything that had been sitting around for a while and then listed some new stuff. Obviously if you know me, I can do things like lower the price and/or cut out shipping. Just give me a holler if you see anything you need/want.
I'll probably be putting some clothes up for sale as well (on either
fruitsyauctions or Ebay). They will mostly be of the vintage persuasion, but they are just things either I don't wear very often any more or they simply do not fit anymore (either too big or too small). So, keep on the lookout for those and, of course as stated above, I'll give you a good deal if you are a friend of mine. Or if I am feeling nice. ;)
So, anyway, I am bored at work right now, attempting to quicken the passage of time before I leave. I really miss the days of when I could at least pass some time on the internet when I was bored, but now we are unable to even look at websites at all anymore with our it being some Orwellian nightmare. This message is itself only being written via email and being sent to my home email address to post to LJ once I get home. Aren't I pathetic?
Let's see, what else can I talk about? Hmm, this week has been rather nice, albeit stressful at work...
On Wednesday, I took
justben to Hong Kong Harbor for his first time for usual Wednesday dinner date. It is my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant and I have been craving its delectable goodness for several weeks. He seemed a bit reticent about it at first, mostly because it leans more towards authentic Chinese cooking and he is more Americanized in his ethnic tastes, so when he said he wanted to go, I didn't even think to argue. He ordered the Garlic Chicken and seemed to really enjoy it, especially the huge chunks of garlic floating in the sauce. I ordered my standard Salt & Pepper Squid which
toxigenic74 got me addicted to some years past, even though I considered breaking away from the usual and trying something new (but then, even though it doesn't sound that appetizing of a dish, it is very good and I just cannot seem to find a better version anywhere in Atlanta).
Afterwards, I took him over to the "main" Book Nook to which he'd never been. I'd taken him to the Lilburn store on the 4th of July as he'd never had the Book Nook experience, so I figured I would add to it by taking him to the main location (though it would have been nice to take him to the classic location, but it closed and moved up the street to where it is now) since we were so close to it after dinner.
It sometimes astounds me that people live in this city and have never been to any Book Nooks when they have always been such an integral part of my life. I mean, barring the fact that I worked there for ten years (working my way up from college part-timer to a store manager), I have been a customer of theirs since about the age of 4 or so when my mother would go in and plop me down in the kid's book section and go find herself some books every week or so. If I was well-behaved (which, face it, I often was), my reward would be the comic book of my choice and one of the free toys you get with a purchase. I then later spent a good chunk of my teen years walking over to the store (I lived within a mile of the classic location at Buford Hwy. and Clairmont Rd. growing up) and sitting on the floor, flipping through thousands of dusty vinyl records on the floor in the back of the store for hours on end, trying to find that one perfect record I was dying to have. For a while I was becoming almost part of the furniture I spent so much time there. I suppose it was inevitable at 19 I would work there (of course I tried to get a job there many times before, but like any good place, you really have to know just the right person to get that foot in the door and that took years of careful strategizing).
Anyway, I took
justben over there as I thought it would be a nice way to round out the night. I hadn't really had the chance to spend any time in there since their somewhat recent move (two years ago?). We wandered off in our own directions, he over to the Computers section and I over to the Cookbooks. We crossed paths a few times at such sections like the New Age/Occult section or the Classics section, me delighting in the excitement of
justben as he found his treasures (which I am sure he will write about someday in his journal...if he ever updates again *wink*). We both bought modest stacks of books (I was good, I didn't even venture into the music section which I knew would have sucked me in like a vortex) and enjoyed ourselves greatly until it was time for the store to close and our evening to come to an end. It was lovely though...
On Thursday, I got out of work a little bit later than I'd anticipated (about 6:45), so I found myself rushing to make it in time to the pizza party that was happening over at
gaeirin and
azeltoth's pad beginning at 7:00. I stopped by my place really quick for my doumbeck - as I knew there would certainly be jamming afoot - and then set out to pick my way over to their side of town. It took nearly an hour to get there between the traffic, never having been there, and the sheer distance, but it was interesting that I noticed that lived really close to my folks (I used to even take Powder Springs Rd. to work everyday back when I was living with them and working at, of course, the Marietta Book Nook location). Anyway, I was not the only person who was somewhat late and it didn't seem pressured as people pretty much came and went.
The turnout was the usual suspects, along with one of the new members of PA,
tygerlilly (who was very nice and I hope I didn't frighten off with my odd mood). We ended up ordering several different types of pizza along with cinna-sticks and breadsticks, so it was certainly quite a feast (not so good for my ever-expanding waistline, but oh well). Soon after dinner and socializing, the music began. It was a drum-circle-cum-jam-session with
wizwil2003 and
azeltoth leading with their vocals and guitars and then everyone else (especially the ever-exuberantly-drumming
justben) playing along. I considered playing myself, but I was not feeling up to it for some reason, so I let
pucketrn use my drum instead. I left close to midnight and people were still playing. I would have loved to have stayed longer, but I was getting far too sleepy and knew I had to face the long drive back...
Well, it's getting about that time to go, so I'll wrap this up. I cannot wait to see everyone who will be there tonight at PPN and, of course, the potluck tomorrow.
Until then...
