A Week in the Life: Day Four [Jan 20]

So, as you may have read on Twitter/Facebook, I've been pretty under the weather tonight. Anyway, this was the best I could do as far as pics tonight. Sorry a lot of them came out quite crappy:

As I mentioned, I've been quite sick tonight, so I left work early. One of the things I love when I'm sick is a nice big bowl of soup. Since our pantry is currently lacking and
justben needed his own food, after a bit of rest at home, we ran over to Los Arcos for some soup and other cheap-and-easy (like me!) grub. I've been going to Los Arcos since I was with my ex-fiance James (six years or so ago). We nicknamed it 'The Mexican Diner' and that tradition has continued with
justben. With all the neon and retro-esque decor, you can see why.

So,
justben's father, Rich, relocated to England about 2 years ago and one of the things that he lamented was that when you go to a Mexican restaurant there (at least in Manchester and other places in the north of England), you a) don't get a free basket of tortilla chips and b) when you order them, you often only get a very small order. This made us all quite sad, because one of the best things about Mexican restaurants -- at least around here -- is that you get a free, heaping basket of tortilla chips (that gets refilled for free, by the way) and salsa as an appetizer. Great for tight budgets! Anyway, in Rich's honor, we thought we'd take a pic of the sort of basket one would usually get.

Yays! I got mah soup! I usually go for a nice Chinese or Vietnamese soup when I'm sick, but Mexican is just as good of a back-up. This is their 'chicken soup' (not sure if it has another, more traditional name) and it is one of my absolute favorite things to get at a Mexican restaurant. It consists of chicken, rice, avocado, cilantro, tomatoes, and possibly other herbs and stuff. It is very, very yummy, I must say. Oh, and
justben and I decided tonight that, even though he doesn't care for them himself, that avocados are love. Yes.

justben, on the other hand, is a man of simpler tastes. I often spoke to him of how James and I loved to go to the Mexican Diner because you could get crazy-cheap nachos there (which was often what we'd have for dinner -- just a big/whole order of them -- as we were quite poor). So, when
justben and I moved to this side of town, he naturally wanted to try them out. I prefer the beef ones myself, but
justben is a chicken nachos man through and through. Here is a 'half order' with chicken, melted white queso, and chips. It costs about $6.00 and is plenty enough to fill him up as a meal. Yum!

So, after we got home from our dinner, and I got some more rest, I decided to brew up some of Tah's (my boss) 'Feel Good' blend of tea that I had on hand. It's an awesome mix that Tah came up with and is so perfect for when you're feeling ill. I tried to get a picture of the tea in the infuser so you could see all the lovely colors and shapes, but it was not meant to be.
Anyway, I brewed up some of that lovely deliciousness and even was able to use my new teapot. The cool red thing in the final shot is my new electric kettle that I got from my mother for Christmas. I wanted to use it as well, but sadly the first time instructions included me needing to boil water 3-4 times to cleanse it. I decided that I just wasn't arsed enough to do that tonight, so I boiled it in an old fashioned, 'analog' kettle we have instead.
+

And finally, a meme of sorts from several on my friends list -- my desk/workspace. It's terribly cluttered at the moment and also the pic ended up getting a bit washed out as I had to brighten it some due to one of the overhead lights being out. There's a David Tennant 2009 calendar that I still need to get rid of/replace, a cute kitty (Sybil) lurking underneath the desk, and far too much stuff everywhere. This is where is all happens!

Okedoke, more to come tomorrow. I hope. Until then, I'm going back to getting rest...
