so, its been a weird 24 hours. last night about this time i found myself crying watching the flock of seagulls "bands reunited" on vh-1 (don't ask me why, that was way weird) up through today when i was having knock-down drag out fights with my muse trying to squeeze some ounce of creativity out of me. writer's block is still taking hold, but i didn't manage to get this little bit when i had said muse pinned down on the floor momentarily (those old jui-juitsu lessons really came in handy!). sorry it's so short, i hope (*crosses fingers*) to add more soon.
enjoy.
x-posted a bit.

As the evening began to turn toward morning, I decided I should probably go ahead and leave. I had watched Ben with Gabriella for a while, wondering what they might have been talking about. I could tell by Ben's exaggrated mannerisms that he was doing his best to impress her, almost as if he were a peacock showing off his plumage. Soon Ben broke away from their conversation, though, apparently to join another with some other girls vying for his attention. He was young and easily distracted. Garbriella herself left soon after, prompting me to finally want to leave as well.
I made my way out into the bitter cold to get my car. As I approached it, I noticed that parked next to me was a classic GTO and someone inside trying desperately to turn over the engine. As I got closer, I could see who it was -- Gabriella. I could not believe the hand that fate had dealt me at that moment and figured this might be someone up there's hint that perhaps I was supposed to speak with her that night after all. I took in a deep breath, tried to calms my nerves as much as possible, and shyly made my way over to the driver's side of her car, tapping on the window with my knuckle.
I think I startled her as she jumpd a bit, but then she cracked the window slightly. The exasperation of her predicament was obvious in her expression. "Do you need any help?" I asked her as kindly as I could as to not frighten her, shuffling a bit to try and keep warm.
She sighed heavily. "I left my lights on...now my car won't start," she replied, her lips curling into the most endearing pout.
"Well, I've...uh...got some jumper cables if you need," I offered with a shrug.
She looked me over, seeming to size me up. I am sure that she knew that opening oneself up to a stranger was probably not the best idea, but I could also tell that she was nearing desperation. "Oh...okay," she replied, a bit reticent, and then, after a bit of a pause, she unlocked her door and joined me outside the car.
"I promise I am completely harmless," I said as she followed me to the back of my car and watched as I opened the truck, keeping herself at a bit of a distance. I reached inside, shuffling through everything I had stowed back there and found what I was looking for. "These have definitely gotten me out of some scrapes," I added, picking up the cables and showing them to her.
"Are you a musician then?" she asked, pointing to the amp and guitar case I also had in the trunk. Admittedly, I was a bit taken aback for a moment. I mean, God, she really did not know who I was.
"Something like that," I responded, non-commitally, closing the trunk. I simply didn't want to go into it.
We then both popped our hoods open and within minutes I had her car running. "Thank you, thank you!" she exclaimed, "I was worried I would have had to spend the night in my car at the rate I was going."
She then seemed to be about to leave. I jutted my hand out to her through her open window, panicked about letting the opportunity slip through my fingertips. "I'm Jack, by the way."
"Hello Jack," she smiled at me, nearly weakening my knees. "I'm Gabriella."
"A pleasure."
"Same...well," she replied a bit awkwardly, "I'll see you around."
"Um yes, see you," I stammered, stepping away as she began to drive off.
I sighed at the experience that had just unfolded and watched her leave. I was surprised, though, when her car stopped before leaving the parking lot. She popped her head out the window. "Jack?" she called out to me.
I rushed up to meet her at the car. "Yeah?" To say I was incredibly hopeful at that moment would have been an understatement.
"Would you like to go to get a cup of coffee somewhere? It's the best I can do to thank you," she asked, a little shy, but with a hopeful look in her eyes.
I was a bit taken aback with her proposal, causing me to take a moment to gather my thoughts. She seemed to misinterpret the silence as rejection though, stammering now herself, "I mean, we certainly don't have to...it was just an idea I had."
"No, no," I countered, my words finally finding my lips, "of course, I would love to." I only hoped she couldn't tell how ecstatic I was.
enjoy.
