Mixed...

Two thoughts sprung up in my mind whilst reading this:

1) I know what you mean, and though I haven't been a fan of the White Stripes as long as you have (merely a year or so), so I can't do the comparison of attitude as you can, but I do understand what it feels like to have one of your unfallen heros...fall, so to speak. And fall, at the interpretation, of a Hollywood love interest. (What I'm alluding to is Mr. Daniel Johns and Natalie Imbruglia...I can't even cite him as a musical influence on me because he has changed, in my view, ever since he rekindled his relationship with Natalie...he has changed in a bad way.)

2) When I met him and Meg at the June 16th show, they were the most gracious and humble musicians I have met...and I have met a lot. They were laughing and joking with us (probably out of pity, since we had stood in the rain for an hour to stand, speak, and get autographs with them for a mere 10 minutes at most), and they probably would of stayed longer with us if the roadies hadn't rushed them onto the bus. I luckily didn't experience the "fan snubbing", as I have only recently heard of.

What makes me angry is this is happening everytime I fall in love with a band - either they are dead, break up 6 months later, or the member who added the admirable essence of the band changes completely or something is revealed to me that makes me question if that essence was really admirable in the first place. I'm speaking of Nirvana, Silverchair, Hole, The White Stripes (maybe...), The Vines...the list goes on and on.

It just settles in me exactly how I'm going to act towards my fans - if I ever have any - if my musicianship career ever starts going.
